Unit 3 In this unit, students build on fraction concepts from previous grades to understand fractions as division. They also use visual models to make estimates, add and subtract fractions and mixed numbers, and check the reasonableness of their answers. Finally, students explore strategies for solving fraction of problems. Fact fluency is a critical skill that needs to be mastered. The expectation is that students score 100% on addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Timed fluency tests are given twice a trimester as part of the students grade. 100 problems for each operation at a timed rate of 4 minutes for addition and subtraction and 5 minutes for multiplication and division.The time allotment decreases by a minute during the third trimester. Students should practice their. facts daily. All students in fifth grade reached the goal of achieving 100% on multiplication fluency. congrats to all! The key to remembering is constant practice. At the beginning of each unit students will receive a list of the topics that will be covered and that they will be tested on. |
