Organization The key to success is organization. We are working on the organizational skills necessary for students to thrive. Your guidance in keeping your child organized at home is greatly appreciated. Because staying organized is primarily your child’s responsibility, please do not recycle papers unless your child tells you. As a friendly reminder, school starts at 8:00. Students need to be packed up and ready to go by 8:10.
Homework/Tests There will be no homework given on the weekends with the exception of Math & Reading Logs. Homework (not including unfinished classwork) should take no more than 50 minutes a night. There will be no homework given when there are school events going on (i.e. Back to School Night). Students will usually be given at least one week notice for tests. There will be no more than one major test on any given day (Math, Science, Social Studies and Religion. Homework calendar will be updated daily.
Grades Letter grades are given in all subjects. All grades are on a point system in 5th grade. Homework is counted as a completion grade. Missing homework will be indicated with the letter “m” on PowerSchool. Please check PowerSchool weekly noting grades and missing assignments. Missing assignments should be turned in ASAP to avoid a grade of zero.
Parent Notifications Students will be given a Notification Slip when an assignment is not turned in on time. This needs to be signed by the student and a parent and returned with the missing assignment the following day. Please note that late assignments will negatively affect a student’s grade. If a student receives five academic notifications they will be required to serve an after school detention. This will be indicated on the Notification Slip. A continued pattern of late work may result in removal from extracurricular activities and a parent/student/teacher meeting. (Handbook - Page 7) Five tardies in a calendar month will also result in an after-school detention. Behavior Notifications will be issued for procedure as well as uniform violations. Chromebooks Chromebooks will be coming soon. Mrs. Ryan will review procedures for using the Chromebooks with your children. Masses 5th Grade will attend a 9:00 parish mass each trimester. Please join us if you can. Tuesday, October 23rd Friday, March 8th Thursday, May 9th
